A Beginners guide to Critical Realism

Slide1“I have been really frustrated by the degree to which Roy has remained an unknown figure despite the fact that I think that if you had to look at the late 20th century in retrospect I would say that he was one of the most important thinkers…He would come up with one grand theory that would be a life times work for any other thinker and after a certain amount of time he would reinvent and come up with something which included the former work and went beyond it”.

Announcing the planned crowd fund and book launch of

“A Beginners Guide to Critical Realism”.

In 2014 Donald Clark and Gary Hawke, worked with Professor Roy Bhaskar, the founder of Critical Realism, on creating a video recording of Roy presenting on his work. The aim of the video project was to introduce to people unfamiliar with Critical Realism, the full sweep of Roy’s work, whilst avoiding the more academic nature of the work, thus making Critical Realism accessible to people outside the academic world, and to ultimately popularise  Roy’s ideas. The project was also a pilot for a returning event in which Roy would deepen his presentation of Critical Realism leading to a number of live workshops.

With great sadness and shock on November 19th 2014 Roy suddenly passed way.

Since then Donald and Gary have been working on creating a transcription of the original recordings with the intention of publishing the transcription as a book called “A Beginners Guide to Critical Realism”.

This is quite an undertaking to take what became almost Roy’s last words of Critical Realism and privately publish them with the intention to share his work, and as such Donald and Gary plan to reach out through a crowd funding campaign to cover the transcription and publication costs.

The aim is for the crowd fund to launch early next year and to have the book published soon after the completion of a successful crowd fund.

You are welcome to register your interest in both the campaign and book launch through this website. And as more details of the campaign and launch become available they will be posted out here.
